Spotify has launched a new artificial intelligence feature called “prompted playlist,” allowing users to create music mixes based on moods, feelings or personal memories. The feature is now available in beta to premium subscribers in the U.S. and Canada and will roll out to more users by the end of the month.

With prompted playlists, listeners can type in detailed prompts describing a vibe or activity. For example, users can ask for upbeat pop and hip-hop tracks for a workout, followed by calmer songs for a cool-down. The tool also allows prompts that include specific artists, time periods, or music styles. Spotify’s editors have added sample prompts under an “ideas” tab to help users get started.

Spotify said the feature aims to make playlist creation easier for users who enjoy curated music but feel unsure about building playlists on their own. According to the company, the new tool adds flexibility by allowing playlists to refresh daily or weekly. Each song recommendation also comes with a short description explaining why it fits the playlist.

Unlike Spotify’s earlier AI playlist feature, prompted playlists focus more on personal emotions and memories. The launch reflects Spotify’s broader push into AI-driven products. In recent years, the company introduced tools like AI DJ, AI playlists, and Daylist. Last year, Spotify announced major investments in AI research and product development through partnerships with Sony Music Group, Universal Music Group and Warner Music Group.

The rollout comes shortly after Spotify announced a price increase for premium subscriptions in the U.S. Starting February, the monthly fee will rise to $12.99 from $11.99. The company has also expanded its content offerings, including the launch of music videos for premium users in the U.S. and Canada in December.

Spotify continues to face both growth and scrutiny. Founder Daniel Ek moved from CEO to executive chairman on January 1, while criticism over his investment in a defense technology firm led some artists to leave the platform.
