Background

Amazon will launch its latest Kindle Scribe and its first color-enabled Kindle Scribe Colorsoft on December 10, following its initial unveiling in September. The new lineup marks one of the biggest upgrades to Amazon’s e-reader and digital notebook category in recent years.

The updated Kindle Scribe features an 11-inch glare-free display, measures just 5.4mm in thickness, and weighs 400 grams. Amazon says the new model is 40% faster for writing and page turns, offering a smoother and more natural experience. The company has added a textured glass layer to enhance screen friction, giving the pen a sensation similar to writing on actual paper. The device is powered by a new quad-core chip, offers more memory, and uses Amazon’s latest Oxide display technology.

Two versions will be available: a model with a front light priced at $499.99, and a version without a front light for $429.99, arriving early next year.

The Kindle Scribe Colorsoft, priced at $629.99, uses new display technology designed to produce soft colors that are easier on the eyes compared to traditional LCD screens. Amazon has also built a new rendering engine to deliver faster, more natural writing and improved color performance. The device promises weeks of battery life and includes new tools for artists, such as smooth gradients, subtle tones, 10 pen colors, and five highlighter shades.

Both devices include a redesigned Home experience that allows users to access notes, books, and documents quickly. Amazon has added new AI features as well, including the ability to search notes, get simple summaries, and use “Story so Far” and “Ask this Book” tools for better reading support. A new update next year will allow users to send notes to Alexa+ for interactive discussions.
