Background
Kayak has launched a new “AI Mode” that allows users to plan and book trips more easily through artificial intelligence. The travel search engine’s latest feature helps travelers ask questions, explore destinations, and compare flights, hotels, and car rentals all through an AI-powered chatbot integrated directly on its website.
Currently available in English in the United States, the AI Mode works across both desktop and mobile web platforms. The tool uses ChatGPT integration to deliver more personalized and contextual results. Kayak plans to expand the feature to more countries and languages later this month and is also preparing to add voice-based commands soon.
The AI Mode builds on Kayak’s earlier experiment, Kayak.ai, which was launched in April as a testing ground for AI technology. The new feature brings these abilities directly to the main Kayak.com site, so users don’t need to visit a different platform.
Travelers can use the tool to find budget trips under ₹50,000 or discover the best time to visit a place. The chatbot also helps compare hotel features, find nonstop flights, and suggest places to visit for special events like New Year’s Eve.
Kayak says the AI feature is meant to help people in the early stages of planning when they’re still exploring ideas. While it’s unclear how many will book directly through the chatbot, the company hopes to learn more about what travelers are looking for.
The move comes as major travel companies, like Expedia and Booking.com, are also adding AI tools to make trip planning easier and faster.
