Background-
Samsung Electronics has projected a record quarterly operating profit of 107.4 trillion won ($80.17 billion), the first time a technology company has topped 100 trillion won in a single quarter.
Third-quarter earnings are on track to grow nearly nine times over, and the figure lands just above the 106.1 trillion won LSEG SmartEstimate. Booming AI chip demand pushed memory sales higher, and the world’s largest memory chipmaker expects revenue to climb 127% year on year to 195 trillion won.
The forecast marks Samsung’s fourth straight quarter of record operating profit. Heavy AI infrastructure investment keeps demand for memory chips and prices strong. Samsung and Micron expect this momentum to last into 2028.
Memory chips account for most of the earnings gain. Demand for conventional DRAM and NAND chips remains solid, while high-bandwidth memory (HBM) is growing quickly. Analyst Douglas Kim estimates Samsung’s HBM bit shipments rose nearly 50% from the previous quarter as the company strengthens its position alongside SK Hynix.
Analysts expect fourth-quarter profit to grow 8.2% as memory price gains settle into a steadier pace. TrendForce projects conventional DRAM contract prices to climb 10% to 15%.
Samsung’s foundry business expects utilization to improve over the coming quarters on stronger demand for advanced manufacturing processes, while the company works to narrow the distance to TSMC.
Samsung will release division-level results in full, and investors will look for shareholder return details during the earnings call.
