ONEHEALTH Project Launched to Boost Health and Economy Across Ireland

Background:

A new cross-border health technology project, ONEHEALTH, has officially launched, backed by €10m (£8.7m) in funding. The initiative is spearheaded by Northern Irish startup Catalyst, which supports non-profit innovation programs.

ONEHEALTH will unite research organisations from both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland to tackle pressing public health challenges through pioneering technology. The project focuses on digital health solutions and aims to improve both public health and agriculture.

Key participants include Atlantic Technology University (ATU), Queen’s University Belfast (QUB), Health Innovation Research Alliance Northern Ireland (HIRANI), Tyndall National Institute, Cork, and the University of Galway.

Northern Ireland’s Economy Minister, Dr Caoimhe Archibald, said that the project will help the region become a leader in health and agri-food innovation. She added that by working with research and innovation organisations, the initiative will support small businesses, tackle important health and agricultural issues, and help create new products and solutions that improve health and boost economic growth.

Dr Rob Grundy from Catalyst said that ONEHEALTH is a big step in solving public health problems. The project brings experts together to support communities, businesses, and better health. It is backed by PEACEPLUS, which helps health and the economy in Ireland.
